About us

We are a group of diverse skiers and riders active in cross country, telemark, alpine, and/or snowboarding based out of Boston area. Our leaders run both backcountry and resort trips in White and Green mountains. We are organized under the Appalachia Mountain Club (AMC), which is a large collection of small groups like ours. AMC offers a structure for leadership training, peer-approved leaders, and workshops taught by volunteer instructors to help others improve their skills and participate at a higher level. Our trips are open to everyone based on ability, although participants in backcountry trips are usually screened to insure they don’t end up somewhere they don’t belong. (New England backcountry can be variable). We are NOT a young singles group, retirees on skis, or Men on a Mission. We are diverse in the style and ability of our trips and the ethnicity and age of our members. We are serious about skiing with competent leadership, but loose enough to have fun on the way. So be adventurous! Check us out and be part of our fun.

It is very important to read the full trip descriptions first, not just the trip titles, before RSVPing.  Thank you.

Description: Join us for a weekend of backcountry skiing in several of Vermont's best zones while staying in a private cabin on Silver Lake in Barnard, VT.
Our current plan is to ski the Ridgeline/CTA backcountry zone at Braintree on Saturday, and then ski Nebraska Notch on Sunday, allowing people to return to MA/NH along 89. If there is interest, we will identify a Friday objective as well. Specific locations will be decided based on backcountry conditions during the event.
Depending upon conditions, there will also be opportunities for local XC skiing and maybe ice skating at the cabin. The cabin is a small, cozy private home with sleeping arrangements on a combination of beds, couches, and blow-up beds. Expect to share rooms, camp on floors, etc. The cabin is well stocked for cooking.
This trip is particularly geared towards experienced backcountry skiers and riders who are looking to meet new folks and explore challenging terrain. Skiers and riders must have familiarity with their backcountry gear and be comfortable on black diamond-level gladed terrain under variable conditions. If backcountry conditions are not favorable then the trip will pivot to resort skiing at some combination of Killington (Ikon) or Saskadena Six (Indy).
Participants will be asked about past skiing/riding experience before acceptance. Our group will travel at a moderate pace. All participants should be prepared for vigorous aerobic exercise, likely involving 5+ miles and 2,500+ vertical feet of uphill climbing ("skinning") per day.
Lodging and meal costs for the trip are estimated at $90 per person (AMC members; non-members $110), depending on final attendee count. In the event we have to switch to resort skiing, lift tickets for any resort skiing are additional and will be purchased directly by trip participants.
Cancellations made by 1/20/26 will be refunded in full minus $50. Cancellations after that date will be only be refunded, less the $50, if a replacement attendee is found.

Description: Join us for a “first day on skis" workshop at the nearby winter wonderland of Waterville Valley Resort, NH. By the end of the day you will advance to a confident novice and be gliding along with us. The Waterville Valley Nordic center is the largest within 2 hours of Boston and one of the higher ones in the Whites for generally good snow conditions. In the morning you have a group lesson provided by FIS certified resort instructors and in the afternoon our AMC leaders will take you on a tour to hone and practice your new skills.
This trip will be run jointly with the independently listed Worcester Chapter Trip also in OC.
Here is the basic plan: -9:00 Arrive in Waterville Valley via self driving/car pools, rent equipment, get trail pass, etc -9:45 Introductions with your AMC leaders and fellow skiers -10:00 Handoff to your certified Waterville Valley Nordic Instructors for group lessons. -11:30 Lesson ends, lunch and socializing in Adventure Center; bring your own packed lunch or buy pre-made sandwiches at the Jugtown store. -12:30pm Afternoon ski tour with AMC leaders who will split the group and provide tips to reinforce the instruction. -3:30pm approx end day (trails close at 1600), return equipment, optional socializing
Cost of $30 includes equipment rental, a group lesson, trail pass and an afternoon ski tour with personalized instruction and tips. To sign up, just click register now, fill in the trip registration and pay the $30 fee and you will be registered.
Refunds and cancellations: Cancellations prior to 6pm on 1/7/2026 will be refunded in full. Refunds after that date will be contingent upon filling your spot with another skier and be refunded after the event. This event is subsidized by the AMC and we expect it will fill. If you can’t attend, please cancel/email the leader as soon as possible so that we can maybe fill your spot.
Later the leaders will provide final logistical info to confirmed skiers, equipment waivers and ask you for info needed for the rentals. In general, you should be prepared to be outside most of the day. Have a small rucksack or fanny pack with water, snack, extra hat extra gloves and a warm jacket (puffy down jackets are perfect) for when we are not as active. You will get quite warm or really cool off depending on how active you are. Car Pools will be facilitated via the OC.

Description: Intermediate and advanced cross country skiers please join us for a 4-5 mile trip through roughly groomed, ungroomed, and untracked snow at a local conservation area in Metrowest. Our route may have been previously tracked by other skiers and snowshoers but will not be groomed and tracked like at a cross country ski area. Please expect to be pushing through snow to help "break trail" along some sections. This will be a challenging activity due to snow depth of untracked snow in some areas and we should expect to ski approximately 2 miles per hour due to conditions. Participants should be in good physical condition and should be able to comfortably ski, change directions, descend hills, and ascend hills, without leader assistance. Please dress appropriately for the weather. Leaders will e-mail participants a minimum of 36 hours prior to trip time with start location and any additional details. Trip start location will be convenient to access from I-90 and I-495.

Description: Join Boston AMC Ski Committee for a day of downhill skiing and snowboarding at Loon Mountain! We will meet at the Governor Adams Lodge at 9am in the morning before we head for the day, and end the day for an on-mountain apres ski.
Participants are asked to be at least comfortable on easy runs, and to avoid any expert terrain. You should be comfortable getting around the mountain independently, and we expect to break up into smaller groups based on ability and pace.
Participants are responsible for purchasing their own lift tickets or season passes, but we will try to organize buddy pass distributions to defray costs. Rentals are available on-site. Please check the Loon Mountain website for current prices, hours, and snow conditions. We will also help organize carpools to get participants to and from the mountain.
Whether you're new to the sport or a true expert, we hope you'll join us for a fun day on the slopes!
