Description: Follow the Wildcat Valley Trail (WVT) from the end of Carter Notch Rd to the top of the Wildcat downhill area Quad chairlift with the possibility of summiting Wildcat D on foot. This is an out & back (up & down) ski best enjoyed with backcountry (BC or AT) ski equipment, including metal edge skis and climbing skins. The WVT trail following the spine of Wildcat D down into Carter Notch was designed as a cross-country trail with nice runouts. That being said, once off the groomed JSTF groomed trails it is a backcountry experience requiring good backcountry ski skills, most importantly the ability to control downhill speed. This is a full day trip of about 10 miles and 2300’ of elevation gain taking a minimum of 5 hours with excellent rewards for the work!. Participant physical conditioning is important - you’ll be climbing a 4K mountain in the winter then skiing down some challenging terrain (hopefully not on wobbly legs!). Ski conditions can range from deep fresh powder to crust (ice will cancel).
Note that participants will need to purchase a WVT pass from the Jackson Ski Touring Foundation (JSTF).trail
