Description: Avalanche Brook is a rugged and exciting ski trail in the shadow of Mt Washington featuring frozen cascades, deep woods, and a fun descent connecting Pinkham Notch with the Rocky Branch trailhead in Jackson. The terrain is rolling and therefore best suited to Nordic BC gear due to frequent transitions. The 500 foot vertical climb out of Pinkham Notch does not normally require climbing skins. Once the trail descends, it drops about 1300 feet in a bit more than 2 miles. During the sustained downhill run there is ample room make turns and to slow down or bail out on the sides of the trail. Participants should have backcountry experience, able to turn, control speed and/or hold their downhill form hoping for a runout. Cars will be spotted at Rocky Branch (finish point).
