Description: Join us for a weekend of skiing and exploring in the Adirondacks, while staying at an Airbnb in Wilmington NY (near Whiteface Mountain; 15 mins to Lake Placid).
We will leave the Boston-area around noon on Wednesday (March 4), carpooling for the five hour drive. Our Thursday through Saturday itineraries will depend on snow conditions, weather and group interests. Our targeted objectives include Whiteface Mountain (lift served), Wright Peak (backcountry alpine touring / telemark / splitboard) and Avalanche Pass (backcountry nordic). Abundant alternate options exist including cross country skiing, slide skiing (backcountry), ice skating and tobogganing! During our return to Boston on Sunday (March 8), interested skiers may choose to ride the lifts at either Gore Mountain NY or Middlebury Ski Bowl VT, both of which are en-route home.
This trip is particularly geared towards experienced backcountry skiers using alpine touring, telemark or splitboard gear who are looking to meet new folks and explore challenging terrain. Skiers must have familiarity with their backcountry ski gear and be comfortable skiing black diamond-level terrain under variable conditions. Avalanche gear (beacon, shovel, probe) and AIARE training (AIARE 1, Avy Rescue) are required for those seeking to ski backcountry / sidecountry zones with avalanche risks.
Participants will be asked about past skiing experience before acceptance. Our group will travel at a moderate pace. All participants should be prepared for vigorous aerobic exercise, likely involving 6+ miles and 2,500+ vertical feet of uphill climbing ("skinning") per day.
Our accommodations are a spacious home, complete with wood burning stove, sauna and hot tub.
Lodging and meal costs for the trip are estimated as follows, depending on final attendee count. Room availability is first come, first served. Bunkroom (4 occupants total): $405 per person (AMC members; non-members $455). Private room (3 available rooms): $495 per person (AMC members; non-members $545). All bathrooms will be shared. Breakfasts (4) and dinners (4) will be provided; lunches, snacks and beverages are the responsibility of each individual. Day passes for any resort skiing are additional and will be purchased directly by trip participants.
After January 1, 2026 cancellations will only be refunded if a replacement attendee is secured. After February 1, 2026, fees are non-refundable.
