Description: Join us for a day of backcountry skiing on Mount Washington-area trails originally cut by the Civil Conservation Corps (CCC) during the 1930s. Conditions permitting, our plan will be to hit the John Sherburne and Doublehead Mountain Ski Trails - one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Folks are welcome to join for just the morning itinerary while those feeling ready for more can join for the full day (both zones).
This trip is particularly geared towards skiers / snowboarders who are familiar with uphill travel but perhaps have limited or no backcountry experience. Skiers must have familiarity with their gear and be comfortable skiing / riding black diamond-level terrain under variable conditions. Participants will be asked about past skiing experience before acceptance. Our group will travel at a moderate pace. All participants should be prepared for vigorous aerobic exercise, likely involving 5+ miles and 2,500+ vertical feet of uphill climbing ("skinning").
