Description: Join SheJumps and AMC for a women's-specific weekend of uphill skiing and riding at Bolton Valley! The weekend will include frontcountry and backcountry portions and will be perfect for intermediate (Saturday) or expert (Sunday) skiers and riders who have prior experience with uphill travel. Participants have the option to register for one or both days.
On Saturday , SheJumps will host a day of frontcountry, with on-piste uphill laps on designated uphill trails, descending on the resort's alpine trails. You must be able to ski/ride blue square (intermediate) trails. Participants can join for one lap or as many as they choose. If you're newer to uphill travel or out of practice, this will be a great warm up/fitness day! Everyone can feel free to take a lunch break on their own, and we'll end the day with an après gathering including a raffle around 3pm. We can have up to 30 participants on Saturday. Participants must register for Saturday on SheJumps’ eventbrite page.
Sunday will provide a typical New England-style adventure led by AMC. Options for the day will depend on conditions and group preferences. This may include glades in Bolton Valley's extensive 12,000+ acre backcountry terrain or nearby areas such as Mt. Mansfield State Forest or Brandon Gap. The gro up size will be more limited on Sunday. Participants will be required to have expert backcountry experience in order to join, i.e., prior backcountry experience and the ability to ski/ride black diamond glades in variable conditions. Our group will travel at a moderate pace (climbing approximately 1,000 feet per hour). Be prepared for vigorous aerobic exercise, likely involving 5+ miles and 2,000+ vertical feet. You should be prepared to spend the day in the backcountry and bring appropriate food, water, layers, personal first aid, and personal gear repair kits. Though this event will not focus on teaching skills, it should help participants practice uphill travel and navigate into the backcountry with confidence, all while making safe group decisions. Participants can register for one or both days depending on availability.
How to register: Participants can register for one or both days depending on availability. The registration link for this post is only for the Sunday AMC backcountry trip with expert skiers and riders. To sign up for Saturday's event (intermediates and experts), you will register directly with SheJumps on their eventbrite page.
Cost : An uphill day ticket is required each day spent skiing/riding terrain that is managed by Bolton Valley (Saturday and potentially Sunday). Participants should purchase their tickets ahead of time online or at the ticket window, and be prepared and ready with ticket in-hand at the designated meeting time each morning. The cost of each day ticket is $25. Bolton Valley is also on the Uphill New England and Indy pass.
Rentals: Bolton Valley has uphill rental equipment available, on a first-come-first-served basis. Visit their site for more information: https://www.boltonvalley.com/winter/rentals-leases-tuning/backcountry-rentals/
