Description: Nordic Skiing at Waterville Valley-Boston Chapter
Join us for a day of gliding along the 70+ km of groomed trails at the Waterville Valley Nordic trails, just 2 hours from Boston.
Meet at the Nordic Center in Town Square at 0915 to meet your leaders, ready to ski. This trip is rated overall as moderate per AMC’s Trip Rating System. The leaders plan on breaking out the trip to a green-blue group skiing about 15-20 km for the day at about 4-5kph and a blue-black group doing about 20-25 km at 5- 6kph. Faster skiers are welcome but you may be skiing mostly ahead of the leaders. Both groups will be out on the trails all day, so skiers need to carry their lunch. Due to conditions leaders may need to alter the trip. This trip is geared towards towards those with cross country experience. For beginner skiers, check out our First Day on Skiers workshop listed for February 7.
Light, classic XC skis narrower than 62mm tips are the best gear for the groomed trails/tracks. Bring a lunch or buy it at the Jugtown store on Town Square. Gear list: very small daypack or fanny pack with 1l water, snacks/lunch, spare jacket, lip balm, sunglasses, spare gloves and balaclava or hat. Check the weather and wear/have appropriate clothing. We plan on starting at the Nordic Center in Town Square, but if conditions are marginal on the Swans Way trail; we will take the bus that leaves at 14 and 44 minutes after the hour to the Livermore lot and ski the north end where conditions are typically much better; then ski/walk back.
Participants should self-pay the $28 trail fee. Waterville Valley is an Indy Pass resort in case you have one. Please check the Waterville Valley Nordic website for details current trail and snow conditions. Recommend all take a map from the Nordic Center and/or use a smartphone GPS app for navigation. Rental skis, boot, poles are available at the Nordic center if needed at your additional cost. Recommend filing out a rental equipment waiver in advance on-line for expediency.
