Description: Interested in learning how to travel uphill on skis or splitboards? Join us for a day of skinning-up and skiing/riding-down Tenney Mountain. This event is part of our Intro to Uphill program and is tailored towards those newer to uphill travel or who would like to practice skinning and transitioning in an inbounds environment, but are ready to begin taking on more challenging, ungroomed terrain (Tenney grooms only the center of most of its runs). Participants should be proficient downhill skiers/riders, capable of comfortably navigating intermediate or advanced (i.e., blue or black diamond) downhill slopes. The event is open to those using alpine touring, telemark or split-board gear. Instructors will review important aspects of moving uphill--efficient climbing techniques, transitioning, heat management, and hydration/nutrition. Participants should be capable of climbing 3,000 vertical feet. We will move at a pace comfortable to the group and practice good backcountry group dynamics. Registration is required. There is a $20 instructional fee for this event. Cancellations made by 1/10/26 will be refunded in full. Cancellations made on or after 1/11/26 will not be refunded. Please plan on bringing your lunch. While there is a lodge at Tenney, ordering food generally takes too long. We may choose as a group to eat on the mountain rather than in the Lodge. For those needing to rent alpine touring, telemark, or split board gear, AMC is pleased to offer substantially reduced pricing through a local retailer. Further details available upon request. Contact the leaders for questions and further details.
