Description: Join us for a weekend of backcountry skiing in several of Vermont's best zones while staying in a private cabin on Silver Lake in Barnard, VT.
Our current plan is to ski the Ridgeline/CTA backcountry zone at Braintree on Saturday, and then ski Nebraska Notch on Sunday, allowing people to return to MA/NH along 89. If there is interest, we will identify a Friday objective as well. Specific locations will be decided based on backcountry conditions during the event.
Depending upon conditions, there will also be opportunities for local XC skiing and maybe ice skating at the cabin. The cabin is a small, cozy private home with sleeping arrangements on a combination of beds, couches, and blow-up beds. Expect to share rooms, camp on floors, etc. The cabin is well stocked for cooking.
This trip is particularly geared towards experienced backcountry skiers and riders who are looking to meet new folks and explore challenging terrain. Skiers and riders must have familiarity with their backcountry gear and be comfortable on black diamond-level gladed terrain under variable conditions. If backcountry conditions are not favorable then the trip will pivot to resort skiing at some combination of Killington (Ikon) or Saskadena Six (Indy).
Participants will be asked about past skiing/riding experience before acceptance. Our group will travel at a moderate pace. All participants should be prepared for vigorous aerobic exercise, likely involving 5+ miles and 2,500+ vertical feet of uphill climbing ("skinning") per day.
Lodging and meal costs for the trip are estimated at $90 per person (AMC members; non-members $110), depending on final attendee count. In the event we have to switch to resort skiing, lift tickets for any resort skiing are additional and will be purchased directly by trip participants.
Cancellations made by 1/20/26 will be refunded in full minus $50. Cancellations after that date will be only be refunded, less the $50, if a replacement attendee is found.
