Description: Join us for a Nordic BC ski tour to Livermore Pass from Waterville Valley . This tour is on the Livermore Road>Trail dirt roadbed. From a technical skill perspective, it’s an easy BC Nordic tour so its perfect tour for advanced groomed trail skiers who want to try some BC. Typical late winter conditions should be favorable with deeper snow that should soften up by mid-morning but most snow bridges over water crossing still in place. Due to the distance and vertical, we rate the trip as vigorous by the club’s trip rating system . The first (and last) 2.5 miles are on Waterville Valley’s groomed trail system. The trip is about 12.5 miles/2500 feet of rise, and we expect to average about 2.5 mi/hr.
We have four leaders and plan on splitting the group. Once we get higher up there is one potentially tricky stream crossing. Equipment: Skiers should have BC touring skis with a metal edge, NNN-BC bindings/boots and poles with wider baskets for deeper snow. A ski of less than a 68mm tip to fit into groomed tracks is recommended for fast access and egress. Full skins are not required, but if your skis come with “kicker” skins that attach to the fish scale area we recommend bringing them. Bring a day pack with appropriate spare clothing, lunch and fluids; it should be less than 10-12 pounds.
Meet at the Livermore Trailhead (South) parking lot at 0900 to be prepared for ski off at 0915. We plan to be back by about 4:00pm. Our turnaround time is 1:30pm regardless of where we are! This trip is coordinated with several other chapter uphill, AT, Alpine and Nordic ski trips in the area this day and we are having an optional combined après ski at the Common Man Foster’s Boiler Room pub in Plymouth, NH after to celebrate a great ski season.
