Description: Calling All First-Timers, Beginners, Beginning Again, and Beginner Minds!
This one is family friendly. Priority will be given to families with kids. Weston Ski Track rentals for kids are available starting at size 9. For 4–5-year-olds, parents will need to be very hands-on.
WHAT: Our AMC Boston Learn to XC Ski at Weston aims to introduce fully able-bodied individuals to traditional classic XC Ski. Small learning groups of approximately 5 students will be paired with 1 teacher, based on prior experience (never skied, some skiing, more skilled). Attend 1 clinic or more, online registration ends 2 days before the event begins. After registering, a welcome email will be sent with additional information.
WHEN: if you need rentals, please arrive 30 minutes before the start of the lesson.
COST: $13 trail Fee, rentals are about additional $25. Both paid onsite directly to Weston Ski Track.
WHO: Students All beginners welcome, including anyone living with Aging Joints/Injuries, Brian Injury, Down Syndrome, Neuro-Diversity/Autism, or Alzheimer's/Dementia (early stage cognitive decline). Students must be able to: - Listen to and follow directions - Feel socially at ease in a small group - Fall down & get back up - Stand/Balance on 1 leg - All parts work ok: feet-knees-hips-core-neck-head/eyes/ears, shoulders-arms, hands/grip - Anyone needing assistance must bring a care-partner - A sense of humor is a plus!
Teachers Our volunteer teaching instructors are trained to teach beginner classic XC skiing. We make every effort to speak loudly and clearly for diverse hearing abilities.
AMC Boston Ski Committee Our Hope is that the Weston program gives folks a familiarity and comfort with xc skiing, to foster greater enjoyment and appreciation of the outdoors. The Weston program may also help some become ready for Skate Skiing, XC Ski trips offered at large Nordic XC Ski centers (i.e. Waterville Valley, NH), Backcountry XC Ski, and Hut-to-Hut Wilderness Trips.
