About us
Thanks for being a part of our Meetup group, and AMC Boston 20s and 30s. For those of you who are new, this email is to give some basic information about how you can get more involved with us and get on even more trips (our other websites have more trip postings than you’ll find here on Meetup!)
AMC Boston 20's and 30's is a group of the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC), dedicated to encouraging people in their 20s and 30s to get involved in the AMC and enjoy the outdoors.
With many volunteer leaders and co-leaders, we offer a variety of activities and events (both online and in-person). You may find us leading day hikes, backpacking, social events, local walks, trail maintenance, conservation work, kayaking, mountain biking, bicycling, skiing, camping, ice skating, and other activities. We sponsor trips throughout the year, most of which involve exploring different regions of New England. Check out some photos of our activities here!
If you want to be kept up to date with even more of our events, be sure to check the official postings at activities.outdoors.org. We do cross post some events to meetup but you have to register via the link in the description (signing up on Meetup does not approve you for the trip).
There are other ways to stay engaged with us.

Relaxed 11-Mile Charles River Bike Ride (Bluebikes Friendly)
Location not specified yetThis event is not exclusive to 20s and 30s
Activity Type: Biking | Road
Difficulty: 2 - Relaxed
Trip Leader(s): Chao Xie, Scott Turner
Registration Type: Application
Please Click Here to RSVP: https://activities.outdoors.org/a5UVX000001D37Z
Register By: 7/18/2026
Audience: EveryoneDescription: Join us on for a relaxed, 11-mile loop along the scenic Dr. Paul Dudley White Bike Path on the Charles River! We anticipate about 2.5 hours of riding time, capped off with an optional (but highly encouraged) stop at Toscanini's for ice cream after the ride.
This ride is uniquely designed to be Bluebikes accessible. We want to make it easy for folks without their own bikes to join in the fun. To avoid overage charges on Bluebike passes, we will be stopping at a docking station every 45 minutes or less. We are giving registration priority to riders planning to use Bluebikes, as there are fewer trips designed specifically for this format!
Riders with their own bikes are more than welcome to join, but please note that you must be comfortable with a slower, highly social pace and frequent stops while the rental group swaps their bikes at the docks.
The Essentials & Safety: HELMETS ARE STRICTLY MANDATORY. Bluebikes do not provide helmets, so you must bring your own to participate. You will not be allowed to ride with the group without one. Safety Briefing: Before we depart, we will do a mandatory safety talk to ensure everyone understands the rules of the road, how we will share the path with pedestrians and other cyclists, and how we will communicate as a group. Group Size: We are keeping this small and social! Registration is limited to 8 participants (10 people total including the 2 leaders). Hydration: Bring plenty of water and sun protection for a mid-July ride. The Bluebike Logistics: Pricing: You are responsible for your own rental costs. A Bluebike One-Day Pass is $11.99 (allowing unlimited 2-hour rides). If you have an annual or monthly membership, you are covered for 45-minute intervals. Availability (ARRIVE EARLY): We highly recommend arriving well before the meeting time to secure a blue bike at the Kendall/MIT docks, as weekend availability can fluctuate. If you do not secure a bike, you will not be able to ride. Registration Instructions: Advance Registration & Confirmation Required: You must be officially registered and receive a confirmation email from the leaders to attend this ride. Please do not show up at the meeting location unannounced. Equipment Question: During the sign-up process, you will be prompted with the question: "Do you have the necessary equipment for this activity?" In your response, please explicitly let us know: 1. Whether you will be renting a Bluebike OR bringing your own bike. 2. Confirmation that you have your own helmet.Reminder: Please click the RSVP link above to register!

20s and 30s Monroe and Eisenhower
Location not specified yetActivity Type: Hiking, Local Walks, & Trail Running | Hiking
Difficulty: 6 - Strenuous
Trip Leader(s): Ian Baker, Rachel Leaderach
Registration Type: Application
Please Click Here to RSVP: https://activities.outdoors.org/a5UVX0000018nXd
Register By: 7/24/2026
Audience: 20’s & 30’sDescription: Join us for a spectacular day above tree line as we hike to Mt. Monroe (5,369’, #5 on the NH 48 list) and Mt. Eisenhower (4,763’, #11 on the NH 48 list). We will hike Mts. Monroe and Eisenhower as a point-to-point, ascending via the Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail up to Lakes of the Clouds, following the Mt. Monroe Loop Trail and Crawford Path south to Eisenhower, summiting Eisenhower, then descending via the Edmands Path. We will do a partial car spot, from the Edmands Path Trailhead. Weather-permitting, participants can expect gorgeous views throughout the hike as our route will keep us above tree line for multiple hours!
Our route is just under 10 miles in length with approximately 3,350’ of elevation gain, which we will hike at a pace on the fast side of moderate (aiming for 1.5-1.75 mph moving pace, for an estimated hike time between 7 and 8 hours). While most of our route features moderate grades, prospective participants should be aware of two challenges. First, the Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail has one fairly steep section below Lakes of the Clouds Hut; this section also features some ledges that are lightly to moderately steep and sometimes wet. Second, the hike features many miles above tree line where we’ll be exposed to the weather (and the sun) for many miles. Even on days with hot weather in Boston, temperatures above tree line on the Southern Presidentials seldom rise out of the 50s or 60s.
Participants must have recent hiking experience on similarly-strenuous peaks in New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, or New York, plus a regular, robust cardio exercise regimen and appropriate 3-season hiking gear. After registering for the hike, one of the leaders will contact you to schedule a time to talk on the phone for ~15 minutes to discuss your recent hiking experience, fitness regimen, and gear to ensure the hike is a suitable fit.
To address unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather, unacceptable trail conditions or excessive crowding, the planned trip destination, activity and/or meeting place and time may be modified. In that event, participants may elect to join in that activity or opt out. We will hold Sunday, July 26 as a backup date for this hike if weather conditions prohibit us from hiking on July 25.Reminder: Please click the RSVP link above to register!

20s & 30s book club: Heartwood (novel)
Location not specified yetActivity Type: Social | Local Socials
Difficulty: 1 - Accessible
Trip Leader(s): Catherine Bentsen
Registration Type: Registration
Please Click Here to RSVP: https://activities.outdoors.org/a5UVX000001CWDF
Audience: 20’s & 30’sDescription: Join AMC Boston 20s & 30s for a nature-themed book club! The book club is held roughly every other month on topics of nature, wildlife, and the environment. For our next book, we will read “Heartwood", a novel by Amity Gaige. Discussion will be held on Thursday, July 30 from 7-9pm at Night Shift beer garden in Herter Park, Allston. Anyone is welcome to join, whether you’ve read all, part, or none of the book! An interest in the book topic is the only prerequisite for joining.
Synopsis: In the heart of the Maine woods, an experienced Appalachian Trail hiker goes missing. She is forty-two-year-old Valerie Gillis, who has vanished 200 miles from her final destination. Alone in the wilderness, Valerie pours her thoughts into fractured, poetic letters to her mother as she battles the elements and struggles to keep hoping. At the heart of the investigation is Beverly, the determined Maine State Game Warden tasked with finding Valerie, who leads the search on the ground. Meanwhile, Lena, a seventy-six-year-old birdwatcher in a Connecticut retirement community, becomes an unexpected armchair detective. Roving between these compelling narratives, a puzzle emerges, intensifying the frantic search, as Valerie’s disappearance may not be accidental. Heartwood is a “gem of a thousand facets—suspenseful, transporting, tender, and ultimately soul-mending,” (Megan Majumdar, New York Times bestselling author of A Burning) that tells the story of a lost hiker’s odyssey and is a moving rendering of each character’s interior journey. The mystery inspires larger questions about the many ways in which we get lost, and how we are found. At its core, Heartwood is an “unputdownable” (Real Simple) and redemptive novel, written with both enormous literary ambition and love.Reminder: Please click the RSVP link above to register!
