Description: Join the Chatham Trails Association (CTA) for their Spring Trail Work Weekend in the Evans Notch region of the White Mountains from June 5-7, 2026! Our AMC Boston 20s & 30s group of about 20 people will share the camp with other CTA volunteers as well as hikers from the AMC NH 20s & 30s.
REGISTRATION When you sign up for the trip, please note if you have done trailwork before and what type. This is not a requirement for attendance, but helps us plan. Closer to the trip, a leader will send a supplementary form to solicit information about carpooling, lodging preferences, dietary restrictions, and other logistical information.
TRAILWORK Trailwork will consist mainly of Level 1 maintenance: clearing water bars and drainages, clearing blowdowns, and brushing the trail corridor as needed. CTA will provide tools, personal protective equipment, and instruction - no prior trail work experience is necessary. Some hiking will be needed to get to the trailwork sites. Depending on which section of trail you work on, the hike distances may be 1-2 miles each way on easy terrain ranging to 4-5 miles each way on vigorous terrain. We will work a full day on Saturday and a part day on Sunday.
LODGING Lodging for the weekend will be in rustic cabins at AMC Cold River Camp in Chatham NH. Cabins will be shared with 2-4 people. Weather can be chilly in early June - cabins are unheated but each has a fireplace or woodstove. Bring your own sleeping bag or bed linens and blankets. The cabins are a 5-10 minute walk on dirt paths from the parking area. The Camp has centralized hot showers and toilet facilities. More information about AMC Cold River Camp can be found on their website ( https://www.coldrivercamp.org/ ).
MEALS Meals are provided for the weekend, including on Friday (dinner), Saturday (breakfast, trail lunch, dinner), and Sunday (breakfast, trail lunch). If you have dietary restrictions, please note that on your registration form.
CARPOOLING In addition to noting your carpool availability on your registration, a Google Sheet will be shared for participants to offer and request rides for the weekend. Carpooling is good for the environment and is a great way to meet other volunteers! It is up to each person to find their own ride to Cold River Camp.
