Description: Join us for a mid fall hike to Mt Jackson and Mt Pierce. Weather-dependent, we’ll be presented with wonderful fall views from the open summits of Mts. Jackson and Pierce. Both summits offer wonderful views up the Southern Presidentials towards Mt. Washington, with Jackson’s view crossing over the Dry River Wilderness and Pierce’s going straight up the ridge of the Presidentials with Mt. Eisenhower in the foreground.
This will be an approximately 8-mile trip with 2,900 feet of elevation gain at a moderate pace. There are two short sections of scrambling required on the summit cone of Mt. Jackson. Be prepared to use your hands to navigate these sections safely.
Participants must have experience this summer hiking comparable mountains in New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, or New York, or equivalent experience elsewhere, plus a regular cardio fitness regimen. After registering for the hike, one of the leaders will contact you to schedule a short (~15 minutes) phone call to discuss your recent hiking experience, fitness regimen/level, and gear to ensure the hike is a good fit prior to approving your registration.
Full 3-season hiking gear will be required including appropriate hiking footwear, waterproof/windproof jacket, and warm layers. Keep in mind that mid-October tends to feature cooler temperatures as we ascend!
To address unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather, unacceptable trail conditions or excessive crowding, the planned trip destination, activity and/or meeting place and time may be modified. In that event, participants may elect to join in that activity or opt out. We will hold Sunday, October 18 as a backup date for this hike if weather conditions on Saturday the 17th prevent us from hiking.
