Description: Join our Appalachian Mountain Club 20s & 30's community for a relaxed 1.7 miles evening walk at Quinnipiac Meadows Eugene B. Fargeorge Nature Preserve in New Haven. There will be very little elevation change and this will be a great one for beginners / new people. Sunset is approximately 6:31 pm so bring a light source just and case and arrive on time, as we won't wait long after 5:30. We still should have time to read the many informational panels in the preserve and learn about the nature and history of the property.
New people are always welcome! Registration is suggested for communication purposes, but not required. There is no parking right at the trailhead. Free street parking is available on nearby Essex Street so we will meet at the junction of Essex Street and Quinnipiac Ave, have the huddle by 5:35 at the latest, and then walk over to the trail. I am unclear on whether or not dogs are allowed here, it may not be the best hike for them.
Meet location/parking approx. coordinates: 41.3172, -72.8763
Entrance coordinates: 41.3156, -72.8777
Afterwards depending on group interest, we may reconvene at a nearby restaurant for a meal.
What to bring: Footwear/water for 1.7 miles on the trail. Snacks / bug spray as needed. Headlamp / light source just in case.
About Founded in 1876, the Appalachian Mountain Club is a non-profit organization that promotes the protection, enjoyment, and understanding of the mountains, forests, waters, and trails of America’s Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. The word "club" by no means implies exclusivity: AMC is a welcoming community where people of all backgrounds can come together and enjoy the outdoors. The Connecticut Chapter of AMC is active across the state and volunteers organize hundreds of activities annually. The CT Young Members Committee is geared towards participants in their 20s & 30s. Some goals of the 20s & 30s group is to add more frequent activities and expand into multi-day adventures such as camping trips, hostels, backpacking, and destination trips that build community and lasting friendships. This activity is geared towards those who identify as in their 20s & 30s; for more information please review this document.
