About us
Welcome to the Narragansett Chapter Young Members 20s/30s Meetup! This Meetup is sponsored by the Narragansett Chapter of the Appalachian Mountain Club (Joining this Meetup Group does not automatically make you an AMC member).
Our trip leaders host local hikes, bike rides, and social events aimed at outdoorsy 20-40ish years old. We offer activities throughout RI and surrounding areas both after work and on the weekends. Joining a YM activity is a great way to make new friends and explore the area's natural beauty.
The purpose of our Meetup is to introduce others to the wonderful outdoor opportunities offered by the AMC Narragansett Chapter Young Members 20s/30s. As a Meetup member, you have no obligation to join the AMC.But, if you enjoy participating in our events, we hope you will consider joining the AMC (https://www.outdoors.org/join-today?chapter=NA&campaign=70150000001EMs5AAG).
Please, only RSVP if you plan on attending the event. For the consideration of our leaders, we ask that you contact us if you have RSVP'ed and can no longer attend.
Our events are led by highly qualified, trained AMC volunteers who are always concerned about safety. They take every precaution to assure participant risk is minimized and fun is maximized.

Northbound Expedition: Cape Cod Canal to Sandwich Boardwalk 20s and 30s

Difficulty: 3 - Easy
Trip Leader(s): Carlos Moriella, James Meredith
Registration Type: Registration
Please Click Here to RSVP: https://activities.outdoors.org/a5UVX0000016cjZ
Audience: 20’s & 30’sDescription: Where the water narrows and the land stretches forward, the journey begins in quiet motion. Along the edge of the Cape Cod Canal , the air carries a mix of salt, wind, and distant sea energy—steady, grounding, alive. This isn’t a walk about reaching a destination. It’s about moving with intention, letting each step soften the noise of everything else.
The path unfolds beside the canal’s strong currents, where ships pass like slow-moving thoughts and the horizon feels wide open. Gradually, the route leads toward the coast, where sand, marsh, and sky begin to blend. At the end, the Sandwich Boardwalk appears like a quiet reward—wooden planks stretching over dunes and salt marsh, where the wind moves freely and time feels unhurried. Standing there, everything feels lighter, as if the ocean is exhaling with you.🌊 What to Expect: • Scenic canal-side walking paths with wide, open views • Transition from engineered waterway to natural coastal marsh • Moments of silence broken only by wind, birds, and distant waves • A gradual shift from movement into calm presence at the boardwalk
📌 Event Details Distance: ~4.5 miles (depending on route variation)
🎒 What to Bring: • Comfortable walking shoes • Light layers for changing coastal wind • Water and an open mind • Willingness to slow down and notice the small things • It’s also recommended to bring snacks, since the schedule may fall right between typical meal times. Having something light on hand will help keep energy up during the walk and make the experience more comfortable without needing to rush or depend on stops along the way.
📍 Meeting Details: Full directions and meeting info will be shared the day before the walk.
🌤 Weather Note: We’ll monitor conditions and send any updates or cancellation details by 6:00 PM the evening before. You can also check local trail conditions. (NOA)
☕ Optional Post-Walk Gathering: On the way back, the journey continues with a relaxed stop at Tree House Brewing Company , where we can take a break, explore the space, and see what they have on tap. It’s a good moment to unwind, chat, and enjoy the atmosphere after the walk. From there, as we head back in our cars, we can decide together who wants to extend the day with a casual meal at a nearby restaurant. Nothing formal—just a shared moment to eat, rest, and reflect on the route before heading home. It turns the experience into a full-day rhythm: movement, pause, connection, and closure.
👥 Affinity Note This is a 20s & 30s affinity event, but all are welcome. If you don’t identify with this age group, we trust that you’ve reviewed our allyship guidelines, taken the time to reflect, and are committed to our Code of Conduct. Please feel free to reach out with any questions.Reminder: Please click the RSVP link above to register!
