Are you eagerly anticipating the 2026 hiking season and counting down the days until northern peaks are less snow covered?
Then join AMC Narragansett chapter for an early spring backpack in southern CT/RI - escaping the snow and ice of the colder north. This trip will be suitable for novice backpackers, as well as experienced individuals seeking to dial in their pack weight or test new equipment on a more forgiving trail.

We will be hiking along the Narragansett Trail with highlights including Long Pond and Green Falls Pond. Daily mileage will range from 5 to 10 miles depending on participant interest. you will be expected to hike at a slow-moderate pace of about 2mph moving and 1.5 overall. Each hiker must have all required gear, clothing, food, cooking equipment, and water to be self-sufficient for a 2-day, 1-night backpack. Some additional gear is available to be borrowed from the club. Sleep systems should be rated for 20 degree or lower temps.

Registration is a two part process. Once you submit your online registration, a leader will contact you to conduct a participant screening and ensure the hike is a good fit – you will not be a confirmed participant until after you have completed the screening process. Trip details will be communicated to registered participants prior to the event.

The event will be held in light rain, severe weather and persistent wintry conditions cancels. Adults only, no dogs, please.
