Description: Join the Narragansett young members on an after work hike through George Parker Preserve in Coventry, RI. This preserve features several networks of trails and features pathways with uneven rocks, roots, bridges, and some mild elevation. Adjacent to the preserve is a bird sanctuary area, so feathered enthusiasts might catch a glimpse of protected birds. Nestled within the landscape are historic foundations as well as rock cairns. Participants can expect to hike between 3 and 4 miles for this after work adventure in order to preserve daylight. Darkness in the trees occurs faster than sundown, but we do not plan to be in the woods after dark.
What you should bring:

  • Good boots that can withstand muddy or slightly submerged trails
  • headlamp (no phone lights)
  • 1 liter water
  • layers as necessary
  • poles if necessary

April historically exhibits fairly wet and muddy terrain. Participants should be prepared for the possibility of encountering standing water on the trail. Afterwards, participants have the option to gather at Tavern on the Hill nearby on route 3.
