Description: Enjoy a hike through this less-traveled section of the Douglas State Forest in Douglas, Massachusetts. This hike will be moderate difficulty at a moderate pace with lots of small hills and 1 big hill about halfway through (Wood Hill). In total, the hike is around 7.7 miles with 610 feet of elevation gain. We will plan on taking a short break halfway through on Wood Hill to have lunch on the trail.
Must-haves -Water: at least 1 liter -Comfortable water-resistant hiking shoes/boots -Snacks as needed and a trail lunch -Headlamp -Warm clothing (LAYERS) -Blaze orange vest or comparable clothing (required by law)
On the off-chance there’s enough snow on the ground to warrant snowshoes, we will shorten the hike by a lot but not cancel. If you don’t have snowshoes, let me know, and we might be able to figure something out. The mission is a go unless there is severe rain/snow/thunderstorm.
Meeting location and parking information will be communicated to all participants a day or two in advance.
