Please join us in celebrating the AMC Narragansett Chapter’s Annual Spring Fling with a fun and easy paddle to launch the paddling season. This will be primarily a paddle for stand-up paddleboarding. (See the separate listing for a parallel kayak excursion).
Plan on a review of equipment and basic strokes, and easy going paddling along the perimeter of Olney Pond. Distance to cover- about 2 miles round trip.
This paddle trip is rated Easy using the AMC difficulty rating system- see https://www.outdoors.org/outdoor-activities/difficulty-ratings.
Wind is always a key factor in paddling (especially standup paddleboarding, and we expect it to be minimal given our early morning departure.
We’ll meet at the Ocean State Kayak outfitter concession on the southwest side of the pond just east of the beach area. Make a right off Twin River Road onto the Les Pawson Loop south. When you see the pond on your left you will take the left into the park and then a right. Follow the signs for Lincoln Woods beach parking. Park in the eastern farthest end of the lot. The outfitter concession is a short walk north to the top of the small hill.
Our outfitter Ocean State Kayak offers rentals of kayaks (sit-on-top) and may have standup paddleboards. Paddle, lease, and personal flotation device (PFD) are included. To make a rental reservation, go to [Oceanstatekayak.com](http://oceanstatekayak.com/) or call (401) 829-1769 or send an email to [info@providencekayak.com](mailto:info@providencekayak.com). You are welcome to bring your own SUP. If you need more help with gear, don't hesitate to reach out.
Please get there by 9:15AM so that we can get everyone squared away before our 10AM departure. We also recommend checking your google maps and traffic flow to stay ahead of any Saturday morning traffic. In addition to wearing the supplied PFD (as required by RI law) we also strongly recommend water shoes/booties, sunscreen, a hat, and of course, plenty of water.
Please register on the AMC website in advance. Start at https://activities.outdoors.org/search/. Select Narragansett from the Group menu and Paddling from the Activity menu, then hit the search button. You will see the event and the "register" button. You will need to create an account with username and password unless you are an existing member.
Any questions just reach out to Mark at [hozho108@gmail.com](mailto:hozho108@gmail.com). Looking forward to a beautiful morning on the water!
