The RI Philharmonic will be playing in Roger Williams Park on Wednesday, August 5 (rain date August 6). It’s free and open to the public. The concert is sponsored by the RI Foundation. Last year they played famous TV show theme songs - this year’s theme is below:

OUTSTANDING OVERTURES: FAVORITES FROM THEATRE, FILM AND CLASSICAL MUSIC

Overture from That’s Entertainment!
Girl Crazy Overture
Overture from William Tell
Overture from Gypsy
Overture to Phantom of the Opera
Overture from The Marriage of Figaro
Overture from West Side Story
Morning, Noon and Night in Vienna Overture
Overture from Mame
Overture from Beauty and the Beast
Overture from Mary Poppins
Overture from Wicked
Overture from My Fair Lady
Happy Ending Overture
1812 Overture
There is a rehearsal at 6 pm and the actual concert is at 7 pm. The plan is to listen to the rehearsal at 6 pm. When they take a break, we’ll go for a half hour hike and come back for the actual concert at 7. This way, people who have a long ride home or don’t want to drive in the dark can choose to leave whenever they want to while it’s still light, and the rest of us can stay for the whole concert. If you like the music, you can hear it twice.

BRING/WEAR: We’ll be walking “mostly” on pavement. Wear any footwear you want, except we never recommend sandals. Bring hydration, bug spray, money for food trucks and a folding chair or something to sit on.

PARKING LOCATION: Once in the park, follow signs for the Temple to Music. If not familiar with the park, please arrive early. The photo depicts the Temple to Music. As soon as you see it, take the first parking spot you can find along the road.

MEET LOCATION: There are two black metal poles with spot lights on top facing the temple. From the road, the one on the right hand side is where we will meet. There is a tree in front of the pole; it’s the only tree with a black pole in front of it. If you came last year, it’s the same place. There will be AMC banners hanging from some of the chairs so you can find us.

MEET TIME: 6 pm or earlier to find parking and so we can stake out our spot; or if you are not familiar with the Temple to Music and need to navigate to find us.

I will have my cell phone – 401-919-0698 for questions once you’re there if you are having trouble finding us.
