STUMP POND PADDLE, SAT, AUGUST 29

Join us for a late summer paddle on Stump Pond in Smithfield. This is a large scenic pond that is a treat for all types of experienced paddlers. We are not going fast, so any boats 12 feet or longer and SUPers are welcome.

Since we are still in a draught, the water may be low enough to go under the route 116 bridge into the other water realm which is quite different from the other side.

The weather is expected to be 79 degrees with wind of 7 mph which is definitely flat water conditions.

Meet time: 12:30 pm.

Location: 70 Log Road, Smithfield RI 02917

Directions: Take Mann School Road off of route 116 in Smithfield. Log Road is the first right off of Mann School Road. As you enter Log Road there are road closed signs. The Road is closed, but only at the far end.

Eat lunch first, bring snacks, hydration and sun block. Wear wicking clothes. PFD’s must be worn properly. Bring your paddling peripherals.

NOTE1: Stump Pond has two adjacent boat launches. The first lot with the official Stump Pond fishing area sign is for boat trailers. Look for the mailbox with 70 on it, and the parking lot for kayakers/SUPers is across from that mailbox.

Conservation point: Although Stump Pond is still a lovely place to paddle, it has been plagued by invasives at certain points. The invasives arrived on boats that had been in waters where the invasives were prevalent and the boat was not washed to rinse off the invasives. After paddling here, please give your boat/SUP a spray with a powerful hose, or turn it upside down and leave it in the sun to eliminate the invasives. Your lakes and waterways and the fish and other wildlife that live there will thank you.

Tony’s Pizza Palace is around the corner from Stump Pond. This is a full service restaurant with an extensive menu. If anyone is interested, we can go there after the paddle.
