Description: Join other folks in their 20s and 30s to hike Monadnock the non-traditional way- via Cliff Walk!
Starting at the Old Toll Rd trailhead, we will hike to the Cliff Walk trail, along which we will be treated with excellent view points and points of interest like Thoreau's Seat and Bald Rock. There is some light scrambling along this route and a fair amount of exposure on the upper part of the mountain. We will connect with White Dot to gain the summit. After stopping on the summit for lunch and photos (if the wind allows!) we will continue to take Smith Summit Trail down towards the sub-peak Monte Rosa and take a jaunt past Fairy Spring too. This loop is approximately 5.25 miles with 1900 feet elevation gain. This is a great hike if you are trying to gain more experience in elevation and exposure to work up to hiking in the White Mountains.
We will still hike in light rain but heavy rain or thunderstorms will cancel the hike. We will pause along the way at viewpoints and for pictures as well as lunch on the summit but we will generally keep a steady group pace on the trail. Please be prepared with sturdy closed-toes shoes such as hiking shoes or boots and adequate water and food for the length of the hike. Keep in mind the temperature at the summit may be different than the temperature at the trailhead. There is a parking fee ($15 per car) associated with this trailhead- we can plan carpooling to lessen the cost for us all.
