20-30 Schuylkill canal and river paddle social

Beat the heat and connect with new friends kayaking on the 5-mile Phoenixville Canal. Our trip – suitable for beginners - will start at 10am at Fitzwater Station (the Fitz), which includes an outdoor restaurant and Port Providence Canoe and Kayak Rentals. Rental costs for kayaks and canoes:

$44 per day for kayaks
$55 per day for double kayaks
$50 per day

The AMC will kick in $20 toward rental costs for the first 10 people who sign up for the trip! Parking is available and you can bring your own boat if you have one.

We will send a gear list prior to the trip. Please note that no flip flops are allowed.

Once everyone has their gear by 11am, experienced paddling leader, John Chalikian, will lead the group down the canal, where you will see turtles catching the sun, local fisherman and other paddlers enjoying the day.

After about 2.5 miles of paddling, we will arrive at Lock 61, where the canal terminates. We will carry the boats a few hundred feet to return on the Schuylkill River, where we may find a swimming hole for a dip in the water. (Bring your bathing suit!)

When the trip wraps and we turn in our equipment, continue the fun with a beer and sandwich on the deck of the Fitz. You can enjoy music, a view of the canal, and more fun chatting with fellow kayakers.

Seriously bad weather will cancel the trip. Check Meet Up 2 hours beforehand if the weather is questionable.
