5-Mile Green Lane Park Hike

If you are in your 20s/30s, this hike is designed for you. Connect with your peers at Green Lane Park, which spans over 3,000 acres of land. Its defining feature: a huge reservoir enjoyed by boaters and fishermen. Our hike will show us only a slice of this vast, scenic park.

Green Lane Park is about 20 miles south of Allentown, and 40 miles north of Philly.

The adventure begins in the Honeysuckle parking lot. (Please meet in the parking lot at 9:45am so we can leave promptly at 10am.) For the first half of the hike, we'll follow the Red Trail out through both dirt woods trails and groomed, grass paths. Along the way, we will pass through the Horse Trailer parking lot, where we may see riders getting ready for a trail ride.

At the top of the first loop, we will turn onto the Honeysuckle trail, which hugs the reservoir and offers beautiful, serene water views. Much of the trail runs through woods, so we should catch the beginning of autumn leaf colors. We will then hop back on the Red Trail, retracing some of our steps till we take our second loop, which returns us to the parking lot via another water-view trail. We will cover about 5 miles, total, with an elevation gain of about 400 feet.

Following the hike, we can stop by Chiaro's Green Lane Pizzeria to grab a bite to eat and hang out to chat.

The trails may be muddy after a rain, so wear sturdy walking shoes or boots (sandals are not recommended). Consider wearing pants because we will hit patches of low overgrowth on the trails. Layer clothing according to the temperatures, and be prepared with water and a snack. Poor weather conditions may cancel the hike, so check the trip posting before departing.

This policy applies for all events offered by the Delaware Valley Chapter as well as any other Chapter events within the state of Pennsylvania.
