Description: 5,265-acre Lake Nockamixon state park is in the rolling hills of Bucks county. The state began purchasing property in 1961 and the park was later developed further by the Army Corps Of Engineers as part of a larger plan for the Delaware River basin. It became a park in 1965, but officially opened in 1973.
We will be hiking the approximately 5.2 mile Old Mill trail that takes us along beautiful Lake Nockamixon. The Old Mill trail is a hiking and equestrian trail that crosses a stream at the Old Mill pond and passes across the top of the stone dam breast. Hikers pass through a mature woodlot, pine plantations, and a loop walk that follows the lake shore. Portions of the trail are paved, but the majority is uneven dirt.
Recommend in Hunting season to wear bright colors. Please wear sturdy walking or hiking shoes with good grip. If it has recently snowed, footwear traction, like yak traxs or micro spikes, and/or poles are recommended for icy conditions. If it has recently rained, trails may be muddy. Bring water and snacks. Hike may be canceled due to inclement weather. Hike leader will contact you the day of, for cancellation.
Join us afterwards for lunch at Fieldstone Coffee Roasters and Bistro for a cozy warm drink and food.
Please note: In order to comply with Pennsylvania Youth Protection Laws, all children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. This policy applies for all events offered by the Delaware Valley Chapter as well as any other Chapter events within the state of Pennsylvania.
