Description: Join the 20s/30s group on a hike through the hills of Hickory Run State Park. A perfect opportunity to meet new friends and explore new places! This 15,990-acre park lies in the western foothills of the Pocono Mountains. Offering more than 40 miles of hiking trails and many miles of trout-filled streams. We will meet at the Skyline Trail Start Parking Lot of Route 534 for a 10 am hike start (no bathroom at the trailhead).
We will start our hike among the trees and ferns on the Gould Trail. We will then climb up a moderately steep hill and then down a few switchbacks to a lovely little stream. We will follow the stream on Hickory Run Trail until we reach our first steep climb. Once that hill is tackled, we have a magnificent view of the lush green hills of Hickory Run State Park from the Fireline Trail. We will have one more moderately steep climb until we are at the scenic viewpoint of the Lehigh River. After we take in the sights, we will make our way back on the Skyline Trail, where we have one more smaller hill to climb until we are back on the Gould Trail.
There is a bit over 900ft of elevation gain on this trail (mainly broken into 4 hills). There will be some very small water crossings (heavy rain would affect these crossings) and a few downed trees (easily stepped over). Hiking poles could come in handy on this trail. Please expect plenty of rocks and roots.
We will be walking at a moderate pace and taking breaks when needed.
Please bring water and plenty of snacks to enjoy along the way. Sunscreen, insect repellent, and a hat are recommended, as well as sturdy hiking boots.
Heavy rain or extreme heat will cancel the hike
Please reach out to Alyssa (alyssa0741@gmail.com) if you have any questions, or if you can give rides or need a ride. The parking lot is a bit small, so please try your best to get to the trailhead on time.
If you'd like to bring a dog, please reach out beforehand. All dogs must be well-behaved and leashed. We love our furry friends, but we ask to please get permission before bringing a pup along.
If you're feeling hungry after the hike, we could stop at Antonio's Pizza (41.060223,-75.772634). If you're still not satisfied, we could head over to Woods Ice Cream next door for a sweet treat.
This trip is intended to be a 20s/30s affinity trip. Participation is limited to those who identify with this age group. If you have questions about eligibility or the nature of this trip, please contact the trip leader(s) by email for more information.
