Description: Join the 20s/30s group on a hike through the Pinchot State Forest following Choke Creek Trail. A perfect opportunity to meet new friends, explore new places, and another opportunity to stand under a cascading waterfall!
We will be meeting at the Choke Creek trailhead (41.200310,-75.631480) for a 10 am hike start time. Please arrive a few minutes early so we are able to hit the trails at 10 am.
This trail will wind us through the Pinchot State Forest where we will get a good variety of scenery: conifer forest, dense spruce trees, wetland meadows, beaver dams, and a beautiful 20ft cascading waterfall. The trail will be rocky and rooty and can get muddy with rainfall.
There will be under 600ft of elevation gain and just over 8 miles. The first 5 miles are primarily downhill or flat until we reach Choke Creek Falls. Here we will have the option to swim or just get your feet wet while we enjoy an extended lunch break and gorgeous scenery. The remaining miles are where we will see most of the elevation gain.
Please bring plenty of water, lots of snacks, and a packed lunch, which we will be having on the trail. There is an opportunity to swim, so bring a swimsuit and a towel if desired! Sunscreen, insect repellent, and a hat are recommended, as well as sturdy hiking boots and poles if you like to use them. Extreme heat will cancel the hike.
The drive to the trailhead will be 2.5 miles of unpaved dirt road. There is very little service and reception leading to the trailhead. Please plan accordingly. If you need to get in contact with the leader, please contact Alyssa at (570)899-0147.
If you're feeling hungry after all the hiking, we can head over to The Indian Lake Spirits (41.178819,-75.689210), located about 20 minutes from the trailhead.
This trip is intended to be a 20s/30s affinity trip. Participation is limited to those who identify as part of this age group. If you have questions about eligibility or the nature of this trip, please contact the trip leader(s) by email for more information.
Please note: To comply with Pennsylvania Youth Protection Laws, all children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by their parent or a legal guardian. This policy applies to all events offered by the Delaware Valley Chapter, as well as any other Chapter events within the state of Pennsylvania.
