What we’re about
The Boston Chapter Bicycle Committee offers a wide variety of rides to cyclists of all abilities in the greater Boston area and beyond. We have day rides, evening rides, weekend in the mountains or on the Vineyard rides, short rides, long rides, easy rides, advanced rides-something for almost every one.
We also get together socially after the rides or at the annual rally and offer workshops where all can learn to fix a flat, adjust the brakes and ride safely and responsibly.
Our purpose is to bring cyclists together in a friendly social atmosphere in which people can acquire new skills and enhance old ones. Our leaders are all volunteers who have mapped out routes on some of the area's most beautiful byways.
Most of our rides provide a lead and a sweep, as well as a cue sheet and/or map. We do our best to keep you on track as well as to keep you safe! Helmets are required on all our rides. We also group rides into easy, intermediate or advanced, so that you can ride with others at a similar pace.

All roads are paved. Our cycling routes throughout the weekend will include one ride each day through mountains and farmland along Lake Champlain and Dunmore Lake. The terrain on the rides vary significantly but will include significant elevation gains. We will maintain a 13 mph speed with a range of 26-35 miles with elevation gains above 1500 feet.

Audience: EveryoneDescription: Come enjoy a mellow 13.2 -mile mostly bike path tour from AMC's City Square HQ in Charlestown to Somerville on the new Community Path then to Fresh Pond then returning via the Esplanade, mostly on bike trails. Most surfaces are paved; Though we are mostly on bike paths, there are many crossings and expect heavy bike, and pedestrian traffic and quick turns. Following the rules of the road is a must for safety. Cyclists should be able to maintain a steady 11-13 mph riding speed. Due to the urban conditions our overall speed will probably be 8-10 mph including waiting for lights. To keep the group well guided and sort of together through the many turns and crossings, we will ask riders to participate in the "human arrow" method (more detail at the pre-ride brief). Helmets required, bright, highly visible clothing and blinky lights are highly recommended due to approaching darkness. Please download the ride from the RWGPS link to your smartphone, gps device, or print a cue sheet Feel free to contact the leader for any questions. Meet at 5:45 pm ready to bike in the park across the street from AMC's HQ at 10 City Square in Charlestown for a short safety brief then we will get riding. For those interested after the ride, we will be having something to eat and refreshments at the nearby Blackmore Bar and Kitchen after the ride.
