About us
The Paddlers Committee of the Boston Chapter of the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) includes both whitewater and sea kayak activities. Our goal is to operate a safe and well-organized program of paddling within the New England area. We run a variety of activities including: clinics, introductory instructional trips, easy day trips, intermediate day trips, and overnight trips, led by volunteer members. If you are interested in a particular trip, contact the trip's leader or co-leader per the trip listing; he or she will have some questions about your paddling background and can advise you on the appropriateness of the trip for your level of experience and skill.

Audience: EveryoneDescription: Tides are an important factor when paddling estuaries or tidal rivers. Poor planning can result in paddling against a strong current or finding a mud flat when returning to your launch. Tides are more variable than one might think and this online presentation will discuss the variables and online tools used for planning. This will be followed up by a trip to Parker-Mills river on Sunday (registration required).

Registration Type: Application
Please Click Here to RSVP: https://activities.outdoors.org/a5UVX000001ABEX
Audience: EveryoneDescription: Come join our team of experienced instructors for a fun and supportive weekend designed to introduce you to the excitement of whitewater kayaking! This clinic is perfect for complete beginners—no prior kayaking experience is necessary, though all participants must be comfortable swimming.
What You Will Learn We will start in the calm waters of a local pond in Concord on a weeknight evening to learn the basics, then travel to a river for a two-day weekend trip on beginner-friendly rapids. All instruction follows nationally recognized safety standards. Throughout the weekend, you will learn: Essential Kayaking Skills: Basic paddle strokes and how to safely steer, navigate river currents, and move in and out of the water's main flow. Water Safety: How to "read" the river to spot hazards, safely exit your kayak if it tips over, perform self-rescues, and properly use safety gear. Accommodations & Logistics We provide overnight camping (a small donation to the hosts is appreciated), and we will head out to a local restaurant for a group dinner on the first night (dinner cost is not included). Teens are welcome provided they are accompanied by a participating legal guardian.
Gear & Transportation Participants are responsible for transporting their own gear and arranging their own travel. You will pick up your rental boats and equipment at our boathouse, where our volunteers will make sure everything fits and teach you how to safely secure a kayak to your car.
