Description: Join us in exploring the shores of the Charles river in Waltham for a late summer paddle!
This will be an out-and-back paddling trip with a total distance of about 5 miles at a relaxed pace. We will follow a scenic stretch of the Charles River through the Lakes district and our goal will be to observe our surroundings and pointing out the various animals and plants that may be encountered. There will be a snack and water break at the halfway point near Auburndale Park. We may explore the surrounding areas near Roberts Bay and Kingsbury Cove before heading back with a return time of 12pm. Common sights are herons, turtles, swans, dragonflies and water lilies. Binoculars and participants' contributions are encouraged but not required. This is intended to be an easy, Level 1 trip for beginner paddlers who are comfortable with long distances.
There will be an optional social afterwards in Waltham (location TBD). This trip will be rescheduled for heavy rain, high winds (>10 mph), or lightning. This is a Womens+ trip. These experiences are led by women, gender non-conforming, trans, and non-binary folks for members of these groups. Chao is not joining this trip and has been added to help coordinate carpooling.
