Description: If you're a whitewater paddler and are looking to develop your paddling skills to begin paddling class III rapids then this trip is for you. In this one day trip, paddlers will focus on fundamental paddling skills to navigate more powerful, complex rapids. Some of the skills you'll improve are: river reading and line selection, boat control, getting into and out of eddies, more efficient paddle strokes, ferrying and rescues. Only specific whitewater boats (such as kayaks, canoes, or packrafts) designed for whitewater class III will be accepted into this trip. Only participants aged 18+ will be accepted into this trip.
Participants are expected and will be screened to confirm the following pre-requisites: 1. whitewater boat suitable for class III conditions - rental may be available (paddlers should use a boat they're experienced and proficient in and not be trying a new boat) 2. cold water paddling gear 3. sufficient class II and class III experience (participants should have completed at least 5 trips in the last 18 months and able to competently navigate class II rapids 4. wet exit and self rescues in moving water 5. understand river signals with hand, paddle and whistle 6. able to independently outfit and launch their whitewater boat
The river is expected to be Tville (https://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/River/view/river-detail/443/main) but may change based on water flow. Trip-specific information will be provided to confirmed participants closer to the trip date and after screening.
If you need support with boat/gear rental or transportation, contact one of the trip leaders directly.
