Learn how to manage accident scenarios and provide first aid when you are in the backcountry and emergency services are not close by.

This event requires registration at the following link: June 28-29 WFA at the New Weis Center There is a fee of $90.00 for members and $180.00 for non-members. This is for instruction only. Lodging is extra and described below. Everyone will be waitlisted on Meetup until the AMC side is confirmed.

The Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course covers: - What is backcountry first aid - What is the golden 24 hours - Splinting and bandaging - Prioritizing needs - Patient assessment - Patient care - How to improvise, modify, and adapt.

The class is 16 hours in length and one must attend all 16 hours to be trained and certified in WFA. The class is fast paced in order to cover all the material and to get hands on practice through various scenarios. Previous first aid training is not necessary.

Students are told to bring their full day packs and to learn how to use what they carry to deal with back country medical injuries/situations. Wear clothes you don't care if they get stained, wet, torn. All students will be "patient" at some time during the practice sessions. You will learn how to improvise WFA tools and materials with what you carry in your packs.

Class will be held in all weather. Come dressed for the weather. Bring extra clothes to change into after scenarios.

Please bring a bag lunch for each day. Lunch will be held in the classroom with a Q&A session.

All registrants are required to have the following: - Masks or appropriate face coverings - All students must have their own hand cleaner or sanitizer - Students should bring latex gloves.

Registration: Advance registration is mandatory. Space is limited to provide individual attention and usually sells out. Your registration is not complete until payment. Cost: $90 AMC Members / $180 Non-members

Rate includes 16 hours of instruction, course materials, certification test, certification (if test is passed), and volunteer leadership. Meals and lodging are not included.

Once a student registers they will be sent materials to read ahead in order to prepare for the class. Please disclose in the registration question field or when you are contacted by the leader whether you have taken a WFA class before.

The WFA class is sponsored by the Emergency Care and Safety Institute (ECSI). You get your WFA card from them.

Cancellation Policy: Reservations cancelled more than 14 days in advance receive a full refund. Reservations cancelled 14 days or less in advance are not refundable. If the AMC must cancel a program, registrants will be notified and all fees will be refunded. Normal weather will not cancel this event.
