Palisades Interstate Park Day Hike 8 Miles (Moderate)

Details
Lets embark on a summer day hike in Palisades Interstate Park just over the George Washington Bridge. For those coming from NYC, we'll walk over the bridge to the New Jersey side to meet up with the rest of our group at the trailhead (gate entrance). Together we'll take the Long Path Trail all the way to Alison Park for a great view of the Hudson, then double back so we can take the Carpenter's Trail down to the Shore Trail to continue with our scenic walk which will end at the Fort Lee Historic Park.
Although this hike sounds awesome, please note that there will be stairs, steep descents and ascents sprinkled throughout the combined trails with flat, easy terrain in-between. Unfortunately, this hike is not suitable for folks who have difficulty with stairs, uneven grounds and are not comfortable hiking more than 5 miles.
Need to Know:
- From start to end, the total mileage is approximately 8 miles long.
- Please note, this is a social hike with a steady pace and we anticipate multiple opportunities to take snack breaks and photos.
- Meeting location is at the gated entrance of the Long Path for all hikers - whether you walked the bridge or drove in. (https://maps.app.goo.gl/BGi6w1nuYQoSq1ev8)
Transportation/Parking
- Drivers: There is parking available in the Fort Lee Historic Park for a fee. Please consult the following website for more information: https://www.njpalisades.org/fortlee.html
- Walking from NYC: If you'd like to join me (hike leader), meet me on the New York side of the GWB at the North Walk entrance, located near the corner of West 180th Street and Cabrini Boulevard at 8:15am. Distance across the bridge is approximately 1.4 miles.
Gear
- New to hiking? Here is a link that hopefully answers your gear questions: https://amc-ny.org/hiking-faqs/
- Recommend bringing trekking poles or walking sticks for balance on the uneven terrain and comfortable sturdy hiking shoes.
- There will be parts of tree cover and sun exposure - wear sunscreen, bring a wide brimmed hat, bring bug spray.
Good to Know:
- Bathrooms are available in the park.
- There are seasonal food stands open throughout the park and a fully equipped gas station along the Long Path, however, I'd still recommend packing a lunch and snacks and carrying atleast 2 liters of water just in case the hours differ from the website (https://www.njpalisades.org/fortlee.html).
FYI: Severe weather cancels the hike and we would try to reschedule.
