Croton High and Low, Plus Oktoberfest (Moderate Hike)

Details
This is a new addition to the leader's roster of hikes and walks. We will visit the lowest and highest points in the town of Croton-on-Hudson, plus an Oktoberfest, ice cream, and more! Our suburban walk will follow the waterfront to Croton Landing Park, and then turn inland. We will go up a hill to the Lytle Arboretum for a nice lunch break, plus some (optional) trail hiking. From there, we will walk into the town center for the Oktoberfest (which will offer food and beverages), and delicious ice cream at the Blue Pig. And that is not all - we will then continue on to the Croton River area before heading back. Those who are interested can end the day with a craft beer at the Green Growler, located near the train station.
This walk will be mostly along sidewalks and paved streets and paths, with a short (optional) section on dirt trail. There will be a total distance of approximately 7 miles and elevation gain of 500 feet or so. The hike is rated moderate under the new system and 3B7 under the old system. There are some steep sections, and expect to be on your feet for much of the day. Please dress appropriately and bring adequate drinking water, a lunch and/or some snacks (you could also purchase lunch once we reach the town), sunscreen, and bug spray.
NYC residents can catch the train that arrives in Croton-Harmon at 10:45 (leaving from Grand Central at 9:55 and Harlem-125th Street at 10:06) or the train that arrives at 10:39 (leaving Marble Hill at 9:46 and available at other stations along the Hudson Line). Drivers, there is ample parking at Croton-Harmon station, but it is not free of charge. There are bathrooms at the train station and at one of the parks that we will visit.
Covid-19 and other respiratory infections have been on the increase of late. In the interest of public health, do not join this activity if infected with or symptomatic of any serious illness - such as but not exclusively Covid-19.
