The Oldest Walking Club in the USA - Established December 1916
Enjoy your visit to our site and after reading of our aim and about membership, we hope that you will join us for a walk and consider becoming a member of our organization. Check our Meetup website for more information at www.meetup.com/american-walkers
Our Sunday morning group walks four to seven miles in different locations around the tri-state. We walk in city parks, county parks, state parks, bike trails and roads around Northern Kentucky, Southwest Ohio, and Southeast Indiana. The time and location of our walks are listed here and in our schedule book, which is included with your membership dues.
When the weather is good, April through September, the group brings a picnic lunch and if the weather is bad they find a nearby place to eat (they know most of the good ones.) Either way they enjoy a bit of socializing.
When park trails are muddy or icy, every attempt will be made to move the hike to surfaced roads.
HISTORY - There is a long and interesting history behind this club so be sure to read our "History" page.
AIM- Our aim is the promotion and encouragement of group walking for health, friendship, and recreation for people of all ages and abilities. It is presumed that an individual's main reason for joining is a genuine interest in walking.
MEMBERSHIP - Persons who enjoy walking/hiking are invited to walk with our group anytime, and if you would like to become an AWA member, the dues are currently ten dollars ($10.00) per person, per year, January 1 to December 31. This fee entitles you to a schedule book and to receive our newsletter, THE PEDOMETER. THE PEDOMETER is published six time a year and has a report of the weekly walks, as well as news about our members, up coming events, and schedule changes. Do not confuse the AWA membership dues with Meetup Group membership, as there is no charge for becoming a member of the Meetup Group.
