Headliner

Charmian Hughes (UK) - Charmian is a veteran UK stand-up comedian and performer known for her impish charm, storytelling prowess, and eccentric, delightfully silly humour. Her path to stand-up was anything but conventional. Starting her working life in advertising, she made a sudden career pivot after an overly bold tagline for a thrush remedy failed to amuse the client. She then studied physical theatre and clowning under the French master Philippe Gaulier and Théâtre de Complicité. However, unable to uphold the mime vow of silence, she quickly ran away to stand-up comedy clubs where she could fully put her "gift of the gab" to use. Since entering the comedy circuit, Charmian has played major clubs across the globe—including The Comedy Store, Glee Club, The Bearcat, Up the Creek, and the Bill Murray—and has performed across the UK, New Zealand, and Australia (including the Melbourne Comedy Festival and Adelaide Fringe). She has a regular presence at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and Buxton Fringe, where she has received multiple award nominations.

"Solidly fantastic stand-up. Charmian Hughes has it all. She is joyfully silly and beautifully condemning, masking satirical quips with an impish charm. A true professional and a pleasure to watch." — Binge Fringe

"Perfectly matched writing and performing skills dance this comedy waltz. Life lessons... age gap marriage, ponies and some delightful sexual similes, make for an engrossing show." — The Scotsman

With a background in engineering, he brings an analytical edge to his stage presence, dissecting cultural stereotypes, everyday anxieties and life as an expat.
