Jim Jarmusch’s charming and eccentric zombie comedy opens as a deadpan satire on consumer culture and slowly mutates into a surprisingly sombre portrait of modern life. When Arctic fracking knocks the Earth off its axis, radio signals fail, daylight loses its rhythm, and in the sleepy town of Centerville the dead begin to rise.
Equal parts absurd, self-aware, and strangely melancholic, The Dead Don’t Die is Jarmusch’s homage to George A. Romero’s Night of the Living Dead — using zombies as a mirror for society’s collective numbness. Tilda Swinton steals every scene as a Scottish coroner and undertaker wielding a samurai sword, entirely unfazed by the apocalypse.

Pre-film:
Prior to The Dead Don’t Die, a short film will be shown: Pathé Revue no. 42: L’après-midi d’une Japonaise (1920, 3’), accompanied by a new score by Thijs Havens (Eye). This short was personally selected by Tilda Swinton to precede the feature.
