Natja Brunckhorst plays Christiane with a devastating directness, her fragility inseparable from a stubborn will to survive. The film observes junkie routines with a cold, almost documentary calm, making the spiral feel banal rather than sensational. David Bowie’s music drifts through the story like a distorted lifeline, glamour refracted through decay. What remains is a stark coming-of-age story where innocence erodes quietly, one compromise at a time.
This is a truly iconic Berlin film - living at the edge of society and a story that shook (and changed) a generation at its core. It’s a deep one.
