About the film:
An exceptional, dream-like neon journey through nighttime Taipei, Millennium Mambo follows the magnetic Vicky, a barmaid caught between her possessive boyfriend and a gangster. Looking back from 2011 on her life ten years earlier, she drifts through a haze of trance techno, boredom, desire and shimmering city lights.
Hou Hsiao-hsien reunites here with cinematographer Mark Lee Ping-bin, creating a visually overwhelming, hypnotic portrait of the Asian “Nothing Generation.” Shu Qi is mesmerizing in the lead role, and the pulsating soundtrack won Best Sound Design at Cannes in 2001.

Special note: Screening on 35mm from the Eye collection.
Part of: 2001 – A Time Capsule
Eye Filmmuseum’s programme celebrating 25 films from the year 2001.

We will meet at the steps of the Eye cafe at 18.15. When you pass the ticket counter and proceed to the cafe area, we will be located on the right at the top of the steps by the black benches.

The film starts at 18:45 at Cinema 2. We will enter the cinema 15 minutes before the start time to grab a good seat. Please do not be late.

I hope to see you there!
