5 Centimeters Per Second
Takaki and Akari form a deep connection during childhood, but circumstances gradually pull them apart. As the years pass, Takaki moves through adolescence and adulthood while memories of their relationship continue to accompany him. The film follows his life across eighteen years, exploring how distance, time and the people we once loved can continue to shape us.
Directed by Yoshiyuki Okuyama, 5 Centimeters Per Second is the first live-action adaptation of a work by acclaimed filmmaker Makoto Shinkai. Based on Shinkai’s 2007 animated film, it transforms his story of love, longing and separation into a live-action drama spanning different stages of Takaki’s life. The film combines striking imagery with an intimate examination of memory, emotional distance and the passage of time.

The film is in Japanese with English subtitles.
