What we’re about
Welcome to the Amsterdam Movie Group. Join us as we explore the magic of cinema! Our group is dedicated to bringing moviegoers together to watch films at the cinema and engage in lively discussions afterward. Whether you’re into foreign films, art house, sci-fi, classics, action, drama, documentaries, or anything in between, there’s a place for you here.
I will do my best to manage different genres of films at various cinemas in Amsterdam. Everyone is responsible for buying tickets (I will post the link). If you find a movie you'd like to watch together and discuss afterward, please feel free to post it in our active Whatsapp group. All movie suggestions are welcomed and encouraged. Let’s discover new favorites together!
Come for the movies, stay for the conversation. See you soon!

Sisters Nora and Agnes reunite with their estranged father, Gustav, a faded director, who pitches Nora the lead in his big comeback film about their family's dark past. She says no, and he casts a hot Hollywood star instead. Tensions explode as old resentments bubble up on set, forcing the sisters to confront their messy bonds amid clashing egos and buried trauma. Audiences raved about its raw family drama and stellar performances from Renate Reinsve and Stellan Skarsgård. The film delves into how unresolved past wounds shape present relationships, particularly between siblings and their absent parent. A must-watch for anyone who loves intimate, emotional cinema.

Directed by: Werner Herzog
Starring: Klaus Kinski, Helena Rojo, Del Negro, Ruy Guerra, and Peter Berling
Runtime: 1 hour 35 minutes
Year: 1972
Set in the 16th century in the rainforests of South America, Aguirre, the Wrath of God follows a doomed expedition of Spanish conquistadors as they venture deep into the Amazon rainforest in search of the legendary city of gold, El Dorado. When the fanatical soldier Lope de Aguirre overthrows his superiors and seizes control, the journey becomes a descent into madness, obsession, and the destructive allure of power. Herzog’s visionary direction transforms this tale of conquest into an elemental struggle between human ambition and nature’s indifference, rendered through hypnotic imagery and an ethereal Popol Vuh score. This legendary film stands beside Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey and Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now — monumental works whose directors ventured to extraordinary extremes to bring their epic visions to life.
The film is in German, with English subtitles.
