UX Monthly: The Threats and Opportunities in the Commoditization of UX Design
Details
The UX Design profession in Silicon Valley has seen a rise in commoditization, leading to growth but also a trivialization of the profession. Factors suggest a shift towards simplistic templates and automated UI tools, raising concerns about the future of UX design. Despite this, there are opportunities for design and designers that require top design skills. Tonight's discussion will explore the current design landscape, comparing developments in Silicon Valley and Europe and outlining the future of design and designers.
You’ll get answers to the following questions:
- What is design commoditization?
- What developments encourage the continued growth of design commoditization?
- What are the effects of design commoditization on our profession today?
- Who does design commoditization threaten in the future?
- What are future proof design competencies that avoid commoditization?
