This is Shazam Londroid - where we get together for a couple of talks, food and drink, and a chance to network and socialize with fellow engineers. A dive into how busuu achieved remarkable improvements to their database performance in their android app, reducing load times 10X. A journey that embraces sqlite, moving from abstractions like Orm to “Room” with Kotlin. They will look at all the best practices and pain points they encountered along the way and how you can overcome them and avoid making the same mistakes they did. Speakers: Nikolai and Claudia Nikolai and Claudia are both Android Engineers at busuu. As well as being incredibly passionate about what they do, they are huge Kotlin fans and enjoy pushing the limits of UI fluidity and performance. Having been developing apps for the past 5 years they can’t wait to share some tips. @clau_cookie (twitter) @niksheva (twitter) Talk two: CI at Shazam: a quest for shipping high-quality code Shazam has existed for a long time and the code base has grown over the years and our CI with it. In this talk we’ll describe how we do CI at Shazam and how it has evolved into what it is today. We’ll also walk you through our Jenkins setup which runs, in parallel, tests, static code analysis and performance checks. This allows us to fail fast, highlight bugs early and continue building an app for tens of millions of people. Speaker: Edward Harker Edward has been an Android developer at Shazam for almost two years. He likes anything to do with Kotlin and is passionate about testing.
