What we’re about
Annapolis Makerspace is a shared workshop run by a group of people interested in robotics, computers, woodworking, art, and anything else STEM related. Members can use the space 24/7 to work on projects, socialize with other members, and learn.
Check out our website @ www.makeannapolis.org for more info. We have a bi-weekly orientation class if you would like to be a paid member. We frequently offer events that do not require a subscription membership, so feel free to join to meetup group to see when those events are posted.
For safety reasons, some events have age restrictions. When allowed, participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult. Please check the specific event details for more information.

- CNC Router - Orientation & Safety WorkshopAnnapolis Makerspace, Annapolis, MD$40.00
[This workshop is FREE for subscribing members of Annapolis Makerspace]
Join us for a beginner-friendly, hands-on workshop to learn how to use the CNC Router! What kinds of things can be made by CNC machining, and why would you want to use one? Some project ideas include: carved wood signs, puzzles, coasters, engraving cutting boards, or any specialized parts that require a precise and repeatable cutting design.
The Shapeoko 3XXL CNC Router is a heavy duty desktop CNC machine designed to do real work, out of real materials like hardwoods, plywood, plastics and non-ferrous metals. Approved materials for this session include wood or HDPE plastic (up to 1” thick) for cutting.
Bed Cutting area: 32"(X) x 33"(Y) x 3"(Z)
Participants will gain insights on what types of projects a CNC router is used for, learn how to create a basic vector design and configure tool paths in either VCarve or Carbide Create software. Then, that design will be used in a hands-on exercise with each participant preparing and mounting their material and operating the CNC router to cut their design.
This class is required for any makerspace members who do not have prior CNC machining experience prior to independently using the CNC router at the shop.
There are PCs available at the shop for use with several software options for creating designs. If you plan to use your own laptop for creating designs, please bring it with you to class. Members will have the option of installing design software using our Makerspace license.
Minimum age = 18
CLASS FEE (includes all materials):
- FREE for subscribing members of Annapolis Makerspace.
- $40 for non-members
