Make Custom Engraved Slate Coasters with the Laser!

Join us for a beginner-friendly workshop making laser-engraved stone coasters on the Makerspace's Boss Laser LS-3655.

Prior experience with computers, Light Burn or other vector graphic design software is recommended but not required to have a positive experience. Please bring your ideas to the class for a couple different designs you might like to use for your coaster engraving.

MINIMUM AGE = 18+

We will demonstrate the steps of creating text and importing images, putting them together into a basic laser-engravable design, assign power values, and material placement for an optimal result.

Once ready, your design will be etched into the finished product by an authorized Makerspace Laser user. Participants will each go home with a set of 4 personalized coasters at the end of the class.

Makerspace PCs will be available to all participants who want direct hands-on design experience. If you have a laptop, you are encouraged to bring it with you to the class.

NOTE: This course is intended as an introduction to vector graphic design and laser engraving with the Boss Laser LS-3655. Due to safety considerations, the engraving portion of the class will be either supervised (for Annapolis Makerspace members) or limited to demonstration only (for non-members) while participants' projects are engraved. This course is not a substitute for the Makerspace's Laser Orientation and Safety course, which is required prior to members scheduling independent time to use the Boss Laser LS-3655.

Attendees will be marked 'paid' once payment is received or membership is verified. One week prior to the event if anyone is not yet paid, they will be marked as 'not going' so that waitlisted people can move into the class.
