With the promise of ease and speed, Docker (and containers in general) has grown over the recent years to become one of the most popular ways of deploying applications. Originally based in the Linux ecosystem, the concept of containers and support for Docker is now also supported in the core Windows Server operating system. For .NET developers this opens up a range of opportunities to reap the benefits of Docker, regardless of whether you are developing against .NET Framework on Windows or making use of the new cross platform .NET Core.

We’ll look at the general concepts of containers and Docker - what are the problems one can solve with these technologies? With the concepts in place, we’ll look at how to build and deploy applications with Docker on both Windows and Linux.
