Tue evening hike in the Berkeley Hills (with a secret waterfall)

Bring a flashlight and join us on an evening hike through the Berkeley Hills.

Hike - ~2hrs, ~4 miles, ~1,200 ft elev gain, mostly on stairs, sidewalks, dirt and paved paths. We will check out a (not so) secret backyard waterfall and enjoy nice Bay views at every step. Fingers crossed for a clear evening.

It's an urban hike - meaning that most of the route is on paths and sidewalks, through real neighborhoods. The paths in the hills are steep and have LOTS of stairs. There are several back-to-back staircases that are sure to get our hearts going. If you hate taking the stairs when the escalator is out, this hike is not for you. That being said, we tend to go slower than most exercise meetup groups so we can enjoy the scenery and the conversation. So if you're a fast hiker, this hike may not be for you, either. There is no marked trail to follow. You can't just run ahead and meet us later... Like it or not, you're stuck with us :)

Bring - lots of water (for you and your pooch if (s)he's coming), sturdy hiking shoes (the waterfall trail will be muddy), headlamp/ flashlight/ flashlight app (we will be going on narrow staircases in the dark), layers.

Restrooms - there are no restrooms at the meeting point or anywhere else along our route. Sorry, plan accordingly.

Dogs - you can bring dogs, but please keep Fido on leash at all times, not everyone in the group is comfortable around dogs. Plus this is an urban hike - I'd worry about the dog taking off into the street.

Kids - you can always bring kids on my hikes. I trust that you read the event description and can tell whether this would be a fun experience for yours.

Waitlist and Attendance Note - If you sign up to attend, you are counted on to show up. If plans change, please update your RSVP and give at least 24hr notice so others can take your spot. If you're on the waitlist, it's on you to pay attention to your meetup emails/ notifications so you know if you're bumped up. Chronic no-shows will be removed from the group. RSVPs close 24hrs in advance because I don't want the system to automatically bump waitlisters to 'going' when there is a last-minute cancellation. More often than not, the folks bumped up on short notice end up no-showing through no fault of their own. Please text/ pm me if there is a last-minute open spot and you want to join us.

MEETING SPOT AND PARKING

We will meet at Euclid and Eunice Ave. Free street parking available in the neighborhood. Please be realistic about traffic and give yourself time to park and find the group. We leave on time. Please understand that if you and I are on a date, then sure I can wait for you. But this is a group event and I'm not making 20 people wait for you. It's inconsiderate to the rest of the group. Please be on time.
