Planet of the Apes is the old San Pedro Mt Road that was abandoned after highway 1 was opened around Devil's Slide in the late 1930s. The name was coined by a cyclist who felt like he was the last person on earth while on this path. The road is now a hiking, equestrian, and biking trail in the Montara State park.

This is a out and back hike with the destination of the north Montara peak. However, one can turn around at any point they choose.
