Hyde Park Book Crawl + Osaka Garden 📚🌸
Hyde Park, Hyde Park, Chicago, IL, USA, Chicago, IL, USJoin fellow fic lovers for a neighborhood book crawl! 😄 We'll be touring three incredible indie bookstores on the Southside. Once that's done, we'll be settling down at the pagoda in the Osaka Garden to read (yes, I reserved space in the garden, dw!). 🌸😄
(SOME NOTES: In the garden, we cannot sit on the grass or landscaping. If you'd prefer to relax together on the grass to read, Yoko Ono's SKYLANDING is a fantastic option located right outside. 🫶💃🏽)
Note on transit:
The most straightforward and fastest way to get to Hyde Park is via the Metra Electric (ME) line. Get off at the 51st street stop, near Whole Foods. You can view the schedule and purchase tickets on the Ventra app.Itinerary:
- 11AM | Call & Response Books (1 hour — pls remind me to take a photo outside! 📸)
- 12:30PM | Lunch @ Medici on 57th (1.5 hours)
- 2PM | 57th Street Books (1 hour)
- 3PM | Powell's Bookstore (1 hour)
- 4PM | Osaka Garden (2 hours)
About each bookstore:
- Call & Response Books | Founded by Courtney Bledsoe, Call & Response Books offers a highly-curated collection of fiction and nonfiction works by authors of color.
- 57th Street Books | Co-op bookstore intended to reflect the academic readership of the city's Southside, an absolutely gorgeous space with a large collection of books spanning all genres.
- Powell's Bookstore | Massive used bookstore for pretty much any topic you can imagine. Plenty of UChicago textbooks, required reads, and hard-to-find books line the shelves. Classics, cookbooks, comics—you name it, it's here, as well as a collection of local magazines!
